Students from four district high schools earn
statewide honors at Model UN Conference

BEAUFORT – Students from four district high schools have been recognized for their performance at the Model United Nations Conference held at Georgia Southern University.

Model UN is an educational simulation where students learn about diplomacy and international relations by “representing” countries from around the world in mock diplomacy exercises.  Students learn about current world issues, brush up on their speaking, debating and writing skills and also improve their critical thinking, teamwork and leadership abilities. 

Students recognized for their work were:

Beaufort High School

  • Honorable Mention (General Assembly) – Guatemala: Lillian Kindwall and Noah Nappier

Bluffton High School

  • Distinguished Distinction – Will Rose, Human Rights Council for Iceland

  • Honorable Mention (General Assembly) – Canada: Dani Campos and Nathan Lessard

  • Honorable Mention (General Assembly) – Democratic People’s Republic of Korea: Jack Roberts and Kate Anderson

Hilton Head Island High School

  • Distinguished Recognition, African Union – Congo: Laney Hawkins

  • Honorable Mention, Human Rights Commission – Tunisia: Keiran Ashton

  • Honorable Mention, Security Council – Dominican Republic: Hayden Bird

May River High School

  • Distinguished Recognition (General Assembly) – Bahrain: Jackson Buick and Joy Schleicher

  • Honorable Mention (General Assembly) – Israel: Madison Black and Amelia Martinez

  • Honorable Mention (General Assembly) -- Italy (Human Rights): Karragyne Johnson

 Faculty advisors for the four school delegations were Jonathan Miller (Beaufort High); Erin Reichert (Bluffton High); Corine Spisz (Hilton Head Island High); and Mary Schramm (May River High).
