First of two public forums on school district
budget rescheduled from May 2 to May 14

BEAUFORT – The first of two public forums for community members to learn more about the school district budget being developed by the Beaufort County Board of Education for the 2019-20 school year has been rescheduled.

That public forum at Bluffton High School – originally set for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 2 – has been moved to Tuesday, May 14, at the same time and location.  The Battery Creek High public forum has not been changed and will still take place 6 p.m. Thursday, May 9.  Both forums will be held in their respective school media centers.

Participants at each forum will receive a presentation on the budget and will also have a chance to ask questions and make comments to Board members.

“Developing the school district’s annual budget is one of the Board’s most important tasks, and that process needs to be public and transparent,” said Board Chair Christina Gwozdz.  “Board members want feedback from parents and community members on next year’s preliminary budget proposals, and we hope they will attend one of our two public forums so they can learn more.”

The Board hopes to officially certify the district’s 2019-20 budget at its May 21 meeting at the Hilton Head Island Library.  Beaufort County Council’s current timeline calls for a third and final reading of the district’s budget on June 10.
